Group exhibition by nationally and internationally acclaimed members of the Sydney Printmakers’ collective.

Sydney Printmakers explore all traditional and contemporary forms of printmaking and have built up a reputation for excellence in the field. The collective aims to develop a dialogue between their practices and the wider audience by promoting the diversity of printmaking as a versatile, adaptive and engaging medium.

Angela Hayson 

Angela Hayson’s art practice originated with a strong emphasis on woodcut printing and etching. More recently it involves working across multiple mediums incorporating drawing, print, sculpture and painting, experimenting with diverse materials and methods.  

Her work is focused on human relationships and the extent to which we expose or hide our true identity in social encounters.  Anthropomorphic elements in nature have provided a metaphor for connection and communication.  The simplification of forms at ambiguous scale and emphasis on the formal qualities of shape, space, colour and composition are explored in the construction of the works.

Angela Hayson resides and works in Sydney and has exhibited nationally and overseas since 2005 with work held in private and public collections. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honors from the National Art School, Sydney in 2005 majoring in Printmaking and received a Master of Art, drawing specialisation from the College of Fine Art, University of NSW in 2010. 

Rew Hanks 

Rew Hanks has held 30 solo exhibitions and over 182 group exhibitions in Australia and internationally. Nationally he has been awarded 28 print prizes and 12 international print prizes. His works are held in the Australian National Gallery and most state and regional galleries throughout Australia and twelve international galleries/museums. In 1999 he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts from the University of NSW in Sydney and a Print Fellow from the Tamarind Institute at the University of New Mexico in America in 1991.

Anthea Boesenberg 

Anthea Boesenberg is a Sydney based artist who works mainly with paper. The work may stretch the parameters to include the third and fourth dimension and works of large scale. She continues to learn and explore through an experimental practice which includes collaborations with others. Anthea exhibits regularly in solo and group exhibitions, with recent shows including  the Burnie Print Prize (2021), the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Prize (2021), and North Sydney Art Prize (2022) and the Fremantle Print Award.(2023).

Gary Shinfield 

Gary Shinfield is a printmaker focusing on various types of relief printmaking. The woodcut and etched lino print have been developed and explored extensively over several decades. Images are based on inner responses to various places  traveled too in Australia and overseas. The images in this exhibition were the result of time spent at Artprint Residency, Barcelona 2018, and reprinted in his Woy Woy Bay studio in 2023. Recent exhibitions include Fremantle Print Award finalist 2023; Gosford Art Prize finalist 2023; and Accretions/Abrasions, 4 artists at GCS Gallery, Sydney 2023. His work is represented in collections, both nationally and internationally.

Danielle Creenaune 

Having lived abroad for the last 18 years, Australian born artist, Danielle Creenaune, worked out of her print studio in Barcelona and recently she returned to live in Australia in 2019. Her central motivation “is the intrinsic dialogue between landscape and people, how landscape is perceived through our library of pre-lived experiences and the ways in which this is reflected through the visual language of gesture.”

Her work has received numerous awards internationally including the René Carcan International Printmaking Award 2016 1st Mention in Belgium and the Corsair Prize for Innovation at Inkmasters Cairns 2018. Her lithographs were selected to represent Australia in the International Print Triennial Krakow 2015 and her work was exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition London 2018 & 2019. Creenaune’s work is held in public collections including the National Gallery of Australia.

She completed a Bachelor and a Master of Art at the University of New South Wales, Sydney in 1997.
